Ingredients
For the Pretzel Crusted Chicken:
4 chicken breasts or thighs
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups crushed pretzels
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp paprika
2 tbsp oil (for pan-frying or spraying for baking)
For the Cheddar Mustard Sauce:
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp Dijon mustard
1/2 cup milk or cream
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional: pinch of paprika or cayenne for extra flavor
Instructions
Prepare the Chicken:
Pound chicken evenly to about ½ inch thickness for consistent cooking.
Set up a breading station: flour, beaten eggs, and crushed pretzels.
Season flour with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
Dredge chicken in flour, dip in eggs, then coat thoroughly with crushed pretzels.
Cook the Chicken:
Baking Option: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C), place chicken on parchment-lined baking sheet, lightly spray with oil, and bake 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway.
Pan-Frying Option: Heat 2–3 tbsp oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry chicken 4–5 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.
Air-Frying Option: Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray chicken with oil and cook 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway.
Prepare Cheddar Mustard Sauce:
Melt butter in a small saucepan over low heat.
Whisk in Dijon mustard and milk/cream.
Gradually add shredded cheddar, stirring until melted and smooth.
Season with salt, pepper, and optional paprika or cayenne. Keep warm.
Serve:
Place chicken on a plate and drizzle or serve with cheddar mustard sauce on the side.
Pair with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a crisp salad for a complete meal.
Notes
Chill chicken after coating to help the pretzel crust adhere.
Cook chicken in batches to avoid overcrowding and soggy crusts.
Sauce can be made a day ahead and reheated gently before serving.
Try flavor variations like smoked cheddar or herb-infused coatings.
