Patriotic Oreo Balls

  • Author: Julia
  • Total Time: 90 minutes (including chilling time)
  • Yield: 36 servings 1x

Description

Festive no-bake treats featuring crushed Oreos mixed with cream cheese, coated in red, white, and blue chocolate for the perfect patriotic dessert

Ingredients

Scale
  • 36 Oreo cookies (regular) – 1 package
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened – 1 package
  • 16 oz white chocolate chips or almond bark
  • 8 oz red candy melts
  • 8 oz blue candy melts
  • 12 tablespoons vegetable shortening (optional)
  • Patriotic sprinkles – as desired

Instructions

  1. 1. Crush Oreo cookies in a food processor until they resemble fine crumbs, then transfer to a large mixing bowl.
  2. 2. Add softened cream cheese to the crushed cookies and mix with an electric mixer or sturdy spoon until thoroughly combined and uniform in texture.
  3. 3. Refrigerate the mixture for 30 minutes to 1 hour until firm enough to handle easily.
  4. 4. Using a small cookie scoop or tablespoon, portion the mixture and roll into 1-inch balls between your palms.
  5. 5. Place rolled balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for another 30 minutes or freeze for 15 minutes until very firm.
  6. 6. Melt white chocolate, red candy melts, and blue candy melts separately in the microwave using 30-second intervals, stirring between each heating.
  7. 7. Add vegetable shortening to any coating that seems too thick, stirring until smooth and pourable.
  8. 8. Dip each chilled ball into your choice of colored coating using a fork or dipping tool, tapping off excess against the bowl’s edge.
  9. 9. Place coated balls on parchment paper and immediately add patriotic sprinkles or drizzle with contrasting colors before coating sets.
  10. 10. Allow all balls to set completely at room temperature or refrigerate for 15 minutes to speed up the process.
  11. 11. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. These balls freeze beautifully for up to 3 months. Let refrigerated balls sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving for best flavor and texture. Work in batches to keep uncoated balls chilled while decorating others.
