Description
These Healthy Greek Yogurt Bagels are a delicious twist on the traditional bagel. Made with protein-packed Greek yogurt, they’re fluffy, soft, and perfect for breakfast or a snack.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour blend)
1 cup plain Greek yogurt (unsweetened)
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp honey (optional, for sweetness)
1 tbsp olive oil (for brushing, optional)
1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional, for topping)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
Add the Greek yogurt and mix until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches a smooth, slightly sticky consistency.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 2 minutes until smooth.
Divide the dough into 4-6 equal portions and roll each into a ball. Use your finger to make a hole in the center of each ball, shaping it into a bagel.
Bring a pot of water to a boil and gently boil the bagels for 30 seconds on each side. This step helps the bagels form their signature chewy crust.
Remove the bagels from the water and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Brush them lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
Bake the bagels for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
Allow the bagels to cool slightly before slicing and enjoying.
Notes
Dough Consistency: If your dough is too sticky, dust with a bit more flour. If it’s too dry, add more yogurt to adjust.
Toppings: Experiment with different toppings such as garlic, onion powder, or even cheese for savory bagels. For a sweet version, try adding a little cinnamon or honey to the dough.
Storage: These bagels can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. You can also freeze them for longer storage—just pop them in the toaster to refresh them!
