Ingredients
3 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped (or 1/2 teaspoon dried)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the Onions: In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 8-10 minutes, or until they become soft and golden brown. Add the minced garlic during the last minute and sauté until fragrant.
Mix the Cheese: In a separate bowl, combine the shredded cheddar cheese, grated parmesan, chopped thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir until evenly mixed.
Assemble the Dish: Transfer the sautéed onions into a baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the cheese mixture over the onions. For a crunchier topping, add a layer of breadcrumbs over the cheese.
Bake: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown on top.
Serve: Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy these cheesy, savory onions as a side dish to any main course!
