Hi, I’m Julia, and I’m so happy you’re here! Cooking simple, delicious meals for my family is something I truly love, and I created DifferentyRecipes to share those recipes and experiences with you.

How It All Started

My love for cooking began at a young age—around 10 years old—standing beside my mom in the kitchen. She had a special way of turning whatever ingredients we had on hand into comforting, homemade meals. Most of our food came straight from my dad’s garden, which was always overflowing with tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, peppers, and more.
We spent many afternoons canning, jarring, and freezing our harvest, and that “make the most of what you have” mindset shaped how I cook to this day.
Even now, I continue those traditions by planting many of the same vegetables in my own garden. There’s something incredibly rewarding about serving meals made from food I’ve grown myself.
Family Comes First
My family means everything to me. My husband, David, and I enjoy exploring small towns together. One of our favorite trips was to Telluride, Colorado, where we wandered charming streets, admired mountain views, and enjoyed the fresh alpine air.
We have two amazing kids who play a big role in my cooking journey.
- Ethan, our 14-year-old, has a growing teen appetite and never holds back when it comes to sharing his honest opinions on every recipe I test in the kitchen. His feedback helps me fine-tune dishes so they’re both filling and family-approved.
- Emma, who is 7, has inspired me in the sweetest way. Like many kids her age, she once gravitated toward quick snacks and fast food, but little by little she started helping me in the kitchen and tasting new, healthier meals. Now she enjoys creating her own colorful plates with fresh fruits, veggies, and protein, and watching her confidence and curiosity around food grow has been incredibly rewarding.

Cooking has become a shared family experience in our home. Everyone helps in some way—chopping, tasting, or offering feedback—and mealtime is something we truly look forward to together.
And of course, there’s Max, our lovable 4-year-old Golden Retriever. He’s gentle, endlessly patient with the kids, and always ready for cuddles or playtime. He adds so much warmth and joy to our home—and occasionally tries to “taste-test” when no one is looking.
